This raw cane sugar is made by squeezing out the juice of a freshly cut sugar cane, heat-evaporating the juice, then spinning it in a centrifuge to create big 'ol golden crystals of flavorful sugar. The distinctive color and flavor of this raw cane sugar comes from keeping the sugar cane molasses in and around the crystals. It is not blended, colored or refined in any way.
This sugar can be used as a 1 to 1 replacement for refined sugar in any recipe.
The sugar cane for this product is grown and squeezed in Malawi, one of the poorest countries in the world. Because of Wholesome's efforts to be fair trade certified, these sugar cane farmers get paid directly. This helps the community thrive and protects sustainable farming practices. Premiums from producing this very sugar have been invested in a centrally-located water well in Malawi. Women and children no longer have to walk several miles to the river for clean water.
